China Blocks Whatsapp

China blocks Whatsapp‼️

China has largely blocked the WhatsApp messaging app, the latest move by Beijing to step up surveillance ahead of a big Communist Party gathering next month.

The disabling in mainland China of the Facebook-owned app is a setback for the social media giant, whose chief executive, Mark Zuckerberg, has been pushing to re-enter the Chinese market, and has been studying the Chinese language intensively. WhatsApp was the last of Facebook products to still be available in mainland China; the company’s main social media service has been blocked in China since 2009, and its Instagram image-sharing app is also unavailable.

In mid-July, Chinese censors began blocking video chats and the sending of photographs and other files using WhatsApp, and they stopped many voice chats, as well. But most text messages on the app continued to go through normally. The restrictions on video, audio chats and file sharing were at least temporarily lifted after a few weeks.

WhatsApp now appears to have been broadly disrupted in China, even for text messages, Nadim Kobeissi, an applied cryptographer at Symbolic Software, a Paris-based research start-up, said on Monday. The blocking of WhatsApp text messages suggests that China’s censors may have developed specialized software to interfere with such messages, which rely on an encryption technology that is used by few services other than WhatsApp, he said.

iOS11 Adoption almost Hits 25%

iOS 11 adoption almost hits 25% after first week of availability

iOS 11 has been available to the public for just about a week and mixpanel is tracking the adoption of Apple's latest mobile OS. So far, users aren't jumping on iOS 11 as quickly as they did iOS 10 last year, but adoption this fall is still relatively strong.

Today, mixpanel data is showing 24.21% of devices on iOS 11, 70.78% on iOS 10, with 5.01% on older versions as of 3PM ET.

Last year saw an interesting spike in iOS adoption about two weeks after availability, which could have been caused by early update issues and the release of 10.0.2. iOS 11 has comparatively been a smoother update without any major issues.

Apple shifts Siri and Spotlight Search from Microsoft's Bing to Google on iOS and macOS

Apple shifts Siri and Spotlight search from Microsoft’s Bing to Google on iOS and macOS

In a major shift, Apple is changing its search results provider for Siri and Spotlight on iOS and macOS from Microsoft's Bing to the vastly more popular Google. The change has started to roll out today and should be in effect for all users by the end of the day.

For users, this means Siri and Spotlight will now provide the same search results as Safari by default.

Apple says that the move is intended to make search results consistent: "Switching to Google as the web search provider for Siri, Search within iOS and Spotlight on Mac will allow these services to have a consistent web search experience with the default in Safari," reads an Apple statement sent this morning.

Iphone8 Supports Enhanced Voice services

iPhone 8 reportedly supports Enhanced Voice Services

HD Voice - using LTE data to offer enhanced voice quality during phone calls - has been available on Apple devices since the iPhone 6, and it now appears the iPhone 8 supports the next generation of the technology. A Japanese site is reporting that the iPhone 8 supports Enhanced Voice Services (EVS), and this seems to be supported by UK carrier EE.

According to Engadget Japan, Mr. Takashi Tanaka, the President of KDDI, said in the exclusive interview with him that iPhone 8 has voice sound codec "EVS" function. UK carrier EE is boasting something it calls 'Enhanced HD Voice,' available only with the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, so it's likely this is its own branding for EVS. U.S. carriers have supported EVS on other phones for some time, so we can expect all the major networks to offer it for the iPhone8

Russia Targeted election systems in 21 states, successfully hacking some

Russia targeted election systems in 21 states, successfully hacking some

On Friday, the Department of Homeland Security notified nearly half of the U.S. states that their election systems were targeted by Russia-affiliated hackers in an attempt to influence the 2016 election. In most of the states targeted, the hackers were engaged in preliminary activities like scanning. In other states hackers attempted to infiltrate systems and failed, but in a small selection of states, with only Illinois confirmed so far, the election systems were compromised successfully.

According to Homeland Security, none of these attempts were aimed at the systems that actually tabulate the votes themselves. At least 21 states were the focus on these hacking attempts, including Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Illinois, Iowa, Maryland, Minnesota, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin and Washington, as confirmed by the Associated Press and the states themselves.

In a message to election officials in the state of Wisconsin, Homeland Security specified that the hack was conducted by “Russian government cyber actors.” The agency first confirmed the state-level hacking attempts toward the 21 states in June, informing the Senate Intelligence Committee. At that time, the states targeted by the operation were not made public.

WeChat confirms that it makes all private user data available to the Chinese government

WeChat confirms that it makes all private user data available to the Chinese government

WeChat has confirmed what has been rumoured all along i.e. it gives all user information to the Chinese government. The popular app in a privacy statement is now informing the users that virtually all the private user information will be disclosed to the authorities.

WeChat, owned by the Chinese firm Tencent, is a messaging app similar to the WhatsApp. With over 662 million users, the app, besides being the dominant messaging app in China, it is one of the largest in the world.

The app is also infamous for its links with the Chinese regime. A 2016 survey by Amnesty International ranked it lowest among popular messaging apps with regard to privacy protection of its users. The information that nearly all the private data in the app is accessible to the Chinese regime became evident when the users tried to avail the latest update.

Users are required to accept the privacy policy to get the update. The reading of this new privacy policy brings to the light that the app will share a large volume of data it has with the Chinese regime in order to comply with the ‘applicable laws or regulations.’

Shareholders force Zuckerberg to give up plan for non-voting shares

Shareholders force Zuckerberg to give up plan for non-voting shares

Mark Zuckerberg is giving up on an audacious plan to sell most of his Facebook shares without diminishing his total control over the company. The plan, which Facebook announced last year, would have given shareholders two new non-voting shares for each voting share they owned. Zuckerberg hoped to sell these shares to finance his charitable ambitions.

But shareholders sued, arguing that the plan would further consolidate power in Zuckerberg's hands with no benefits to other shareholders. Zuckerberg was scheduled to testify in court in the case on Tuesday. Abandoning the plan saves Zuckerberg from having to do that.

Facebook's corporate structure is even more concentrated: Zuckerberg alone controlled a majority of Facebook's shares when the company went public in 2012.

Instagram New Sticker Updates

Instagram update brings new seasonal stickers including autumn and spring packs

In a blog post, Instagram announced the new seasonal stickers that will come in handy as today marks autumnal equinox for the northern hemisphere. But the company didn't leave out those in the southern hemisphere where spring is just beginning.

If you are in the northern hemisphere, you'll see a new cozy sticker pack for autumn complete with expressive acorns, falling leaves, warm beanies and cups of tea.

And for those in the southern hemisphere, flowers, kits and happy sprouts help you celebrate the arrival of spring.

iTunes Store Doubles Movie Rental Playback Time to 48hours

iTunes Store doubles movie rental playback time to 48 hours

Apple has slowly been improving the movie rental experience on iTunes this year as it focuses on revenue growth from services.

Back in March, Apple introduced a new 'rent once, watch anywhere' feature that removed a playback restriction for viewing rentals on different devices. Now, Apple has doubled the amount of time you're allowed to play a rental after you start watching.

Apple notes the change today in an update to its support document for renting movies from the iTunes Store.

As mentioned, the more flexible restriction follows Apple introducing its 'rent once, watch anywhere' feature earlier this year which lets you start playback on one device and resume playback on another device for rentals.

Alarms Set via Google Clock not Ringing for some Android 8.0

Alarms ⏰ set via Google Clock are not ringing for some on Android 8.0 Oreo

Smartphones are truly indispensable given how they've subsumed all the other gadgets in our lives. They are used by many as buzzers to wake up, and as such a possible alarm bug on Android Oreo is quite worrying.

The crux of the issue is how some Android Oreo devices are not playing a sound or waking the screen when an alarm set through the default Google Clock app is scheduled to go off.

Those who have encountered the issue recommend a variety of suggestions to possibly remedy the problem. The most common being that a reboot every so often should keep the bug away. Others note that using a third-party alarm app does not seem to trigger the issue.

This problem does not seem to be widespread as a quick test on a Pixel running the September security patch has everything functioning perfectly. Meanwhile, some are suggesting that the issue only arises when using custom media files as an alarm sound.

Most notice that the default tones will always ring at the end of an alarm.

Update Button will now Push OTA Updates to your Pixel/Nexus Device

Check for update’ button will now actually push OTA updates to your Pixel, Nexus device

Until recently, repeatedly tapping - but really violently smashing - the "Check for update" button in Settings would not push OTAs to your device any faster.

Pressing the button now tells Google that a user has manually requested the update on their device and will offer it up for install.

Google software engineer Elliott Hughes noted today that the “Check for update” button “actually works now.” Pressing the button now tells Google that a user has manually requested the update on their device and will offer it up for install.

Hughes only notes needing to be on the latest version of Google Play services to get this new behavior. Of course, this feature is likely limited to Pixel, Nexus, and possibly Android One devices where Google manages the update process. Hopefully, other OEMs will adopt this behavior for the benefit of early adopters.

Apple Donating 1M to Mexico Quake Recovery

Apple Donating 1 M to Mexico Quake Recovery

Following the devastating 7.1 magnitude earthquake that struck Mexico City and surrounding areas on Tuesday, CEO Tim Cook has announced today that Apple will be contributing $1 million to recovery efforts in the country…

Tim Cook made the announcement in a tweet this afternoon, saying that “Mexico’s resilience is in its strength.” Earlier this week Cook offered thoughts and prayers to those affected by the earthquake: "Our thoughts are with all those affected by the earthquake that Mexico suffered today. Praying for our friends and colleagues. While there is life there is hope. Mexico’s resilience is its strength. Apple is contributing $1M to recovery efforts."

Following Hurricane Harvey’s devastation last month, Tim Cook said that Apple was donating $2 million to relief efforts while also matching employee donations two-for-one. The company later donated $5 million to Hand in Hand for Hurricane Irma and Harvey recovery efforts.

Facebook Tests New Whatsapp Button on its Main App

Facebook tests new whatsapp button on its main app

Facebook appears to be running a trial that features its subsidiary WhatsApp a lot more prominently in the main app.

Users are reporting seeing a dedicated WhatsApp button in the main Facebook app on Android. When clicked, the button acts like a shortcut, opening WhatsApp without the need to leave the Facebook app.

IThe dedicated button can be found in the menu area. But chances are not everyone will be able to see it yet. The shortcut is currently being tested on the Android version of the app, but it could very well be available to some iOS users too.

AirPods wireless Charging Case to be sold Separately

AirPods wireless charging case will be sold separately & work with your current AirPods

When Apple announced its new AirPower charging mat accessory alongside the new iPhone 8, 8 Plus and iPhone X- the first iPhones to support wireless charging- it also casually mentioned that AirPods would get a new optional wireless charging case.

Even though the case will be sold separately allowing you to add the functionality to existing AirPods, it's still of course possible and seems likely that Apple could sell the new case bundled together with AirPods.

Either way, if you happen to already have or pick up a pair of AirPods before the new charging case, you at least can rest assured that you will be able to purchase one separately when it's released.

Wireless charging was a long awaited but very welcomed update for the new iPhones, and that Apple plans to roll out an update later this year to implement even faster wireless charging at 7.5W.

Headphones with Google Assistant built-in Arriving Today

Headphones with Google Assistant built-in arrive starting today with the Bose QC35 II

Google has been working on a project to bring Assistant to headphones for quite some time. Today, though, Google has officially unveiled this new integration, and it starts with the Bose QC35 II.

Assistant’s integration with headphones is built into the headphones themselves, but relies on a connection to your smartphone — either Android or iOS through the Assistant app. The idea behind Assistant on headphones is to fill in those "in between" moments where users might not want to pull out their phone, but also aren't in an area where an Assistant-smart speaker is available.

Bose says that its proprietary microphones on the QC35 II help it pick up commands even in crowded areas, and thanks to the company's impressive noise cancellation, you'll only hear your music and Assistant, and not much else.

And in a fraction of a millisecond, Bose active noise cancellation dramatically reduces unwanted sounds around you - so whether you're in a crowded airport terminal, on a busy city sidewalk, or a subway platform at rush hour - you only hear your Assistant or your music, brilliantly reproduced.

Android Oreo is causing Random Reboots on some Google Pixel Devices

Android Oreo is causing random reboots on some Google Pixel devices

Android Oreo is a solid upgrade from Nougat, but its debut has seen a few issues. Lately, quite a few users are noticing that their devices are randomly rebooting following the update.

Strangely, Oreo's stability has not been great following the final OTA despite being pretty solid through the developer previews. Regardless, this issue seems fairly widespread.

The problem here lies in the complete unpredictability of the reboots. In some cases, a simple task like sending a message or opening an app can trigger a reboot, but the cause is completely unknown. Some users report that Oreo’s picture-in-picture feature can trigger this problem, but it’s not the only cause.

A clear fix isn’t available yet either. Many hoped the September OTA would solve the problem, but it doesn’t seem to have done so.

ASUS Chrome Book flip C101 now Available

ASUS Chromebook Flip C101 now available for pre-order at $299‼️

Chromebooks have quickly become excellent replacements for Android tablets since the arrival of Android apps on Chrome OS. The original Chromebook Flip C100 debuted long before Android apps, so the compact 10.1-inch device felt a bit awkward to use, even with its 360-degree touchscreen display. With the arrival of Android apps, though, that original model became much more useful, and the market quickly became ready for such a small Chromebook.

The new C101 doesn’t change much on the surface compared to the original, but brings it up to speed in a few key areas. First and foremost, that includes the specifications under the hood. The RockChip RK3399 is a capable chipset for both Android apps and Chrome OS tasks, and we know that because it’s the same one powering the Samsung Chromebook Plus. You’ll also get 4GB of RAM, 16GB of storage (w/microSD), and up to 9 hours of battery life.

As for ports, the Chromebook Flip C101 actually packs quite a bit. I/O includes 2 USB-C ports, a single full-size USB 2.0 port, a headphone jack, and the previously mentioned microSD card reader.

The ASUS Chromebook is available for $300 on Amazon.

Android Apps now to have Credit Card Skimmers

This open-source Android app is designed to detect nearby credit card skimmers

With a simple piece of hardware and 30 seconds to install it, a hacker can easily steal credit card numbers from a gas pump without anyone knowing. This free, open-source Android app is built to detect credit card skimmers that are used most popularly in the area around your phone, specifically at a gas station.

Using your phone's Bluetooth radio, Skimmer Scanner searches for a specific Bluetooth signal that is emitted by these skimmers, attempts to establish a connection, and then verifies if there is, in fact, a skimmer in the vicinity.

Skimmer Scanner is available now on Google Play, and you can also go check out the full blog post over on SparkFun's website for more information.

Facebook's CEO Speaks on Maintaining Elections Integrity

Zuckerberg speaks on Facebook's role in maintaining election integrity

On Thursday afternoon, Mark Zuckerberg went live on Facebook to discuss Facebook's role in maintaining election integrity. Zuckerberg, who had just returned to work from paternity leave, said that he hoped that Facebook would be a force for good democracy.

The company is currently working with the US Government regarding the Russian interference in the 2016 elections. Although they did not find much evidence of facebook being used by Russian groups in the beginning, they did uncover a lot later. He added that whatever evidence was found was handed over to congress. "We will continue our investigation into what happened on Facebook in this election. We may find more, and if we do, we will continue to work with the government. We are looking into foreign actors, including additional Russian groups and other former Soviet states, as well as organizations like the campaigns, to further our understanding of how they used our tools. These investigations will take some time, but we will continue our thorough review."

Facebook will also be making political advertising more transparent, in order to stop interference wherever possible. "We're going to bring Facebook to an even higher standard of transparency. Not only will you have to disclose which page paid for an ad, but we will also make it so you can visit an advertiser's page and see the ads they're currently running to any audience on Facebook. We will roll this out over the coming months, and we will work with others to create a new standard for transparency in online political ads," said Zuckerberg. Facebook will also strengthen the review process for these ads.

They also plan to increase investment in security and election integrity, and partner with election commissions across to the world and inform them of online risks in their elections. They are currently working with Germany on their upcoming elections this weekend. "In 2016, people had billions of interactions and open discussions on Facebook that may never have happened offline. Candidates had direct channels to communicate with tens of millions of citizens. Campaigns spent tens of millions organizing and advertising online to get their messages out further. And we organized "get out the vote" efforts that helped as many as 2 million people register to vote who might not have voted otherwise. Many of these dynamics were new in this election, or at much larger scale than ever before in history, and at much larger scale than the interference we've found," Mark reiterated.

But he admits that it is "a new challenge for internet communities to deal with nation states attempting to subvert elections" and stressed on Facebook's commitment to democracy.

Scientists Create World's First Molecular Robot

Scientists Create World's First 'Molecular Robot' Capable of Building Molecules

Scientists at The University of Manchester have created the world's first 'molecular robot' that is capable of performing basic tasks including building other molecules. The tiny robots, which are a millionth of a millimetre in size, can be programmed to move and build molecular cargo, using a tiny robotic arm.

Each individual robot is capable of manipulating a single molecule and is made up of just 150 carbon, hydrogen, oxygen and nitrogen atoms. To put that size into context, a billion billion of these robots piled on top of each other would still only be the same size as a single grain of salt. The robots operate by carrying out chemical reactions in special solutions which can then be controlled and programmed by scientists to perform the basic tasks.

In the future, such robots could be used for medical purposes, advanced manufacturing processes and even building molecular factories and assembly lines. The research will be published in _Nature_ on Thursday 21st September.

Google Signs $1.1bn HTC Smartphone Deal

Google signs $1.1bn HTC smartphone deal

Alphabet's Google has struck a $1.1bn (£822m) deal with Taiwan's HTC to expand its smartphone business. Google will not take a stake in the firm, but some HTC staff will join the Silicon Valley giant. The Taiwanese company was once a major player in the smartphone market but has struggled to compete with the likes of Apple and Samsung.

Google expects the deal to close by early 2018, provided it gets the all clear from regulators. Shares in HTC were suspended in Taiwan on Thursday. The deal marks the latest move by Google to boost its hardware capabilities.

"It's still early days for Google's hardware business," the firm's senior vice-president of hardware Rick Osterloh said in a blog post on Google's website.Under the deal, Google will acquire a team of people who develop Pixel smartphones for the US company and receive a non-exclusive license for HTC's intellectual property.

Saudi Arabia lifts Ban on Social Media Apps

Saudi Arabia lifts ban on Skype, WhatsApp, and other messaging apps

Saudi Arabia is lifting a year-long ban on Skype and other services like WhatsApp and Snapchat, effective at 8 PM ET today. According to a statement from Saudi Arabia’s telecommunications authority posted on Twitter, any voice and video apps that meet the rules will be allowed. In the context of Saudi’s current economy, the ban lift makes sense. As oil prices plummet, Saudi Arabia is looking to the internet for more sources of revenue.

Leap Ventures partner Hala Fadel wrote last year that it was a prime time for Middle East nations to start investing in digital startups: “With 70% of the population under age 30, the Arabs are a hyper social and hyper digital population.” Saudi Arabia’s information ministry seems to agree with Fadel, saying that a digital transformation will boost the nation’s economy.

As Skype, WhatsApp, and others become accessible to Saudis again, the country’s three domestic telecoms operators — Saudi Telecom Co, Etihad Etisalat, and Zain Saudi — will face more competition and lose their current oligopoly.

Whatsapp Reportedly Refused to build a Backdoor for the Uk Government

WhatsApp reportedly refused to build a backdoor for the UK government

Messaging service WhatsApp rejected a UK Government request to create a way to access encrypted messages earlier this year, reports_ Sky News_, citing an anonymous security source. The British Government reportedly asked WhatsApp in a meeting during summer to produce technical solutions that would allow access.

_Sky News_reports that 80 percent of investigations into terrorism and serious crime are affected by encryption. "It is crucially important that we can access their communications — and when we can't, it can provide a black hole for investigators," the source said_. _

Extremists are known to use encryption apps like WhatsApp and Telegram to communicate, and an inability to access those messages has been a constant source of frustration for law enforcement. Major tech companies have been strongly opposed to building backdoors though because it would undermine their services’ security, so a compromise doesn’t look likely.

Fix iOS 11 Update

Fix iOS 11 update issues & recover lost or deleted iPhone/iPad data w/ PhoneRescue

We're all excited to update to Apple's new iOS 11 for iPhone and iPad after the official public release yesterday, but making sure you have your backups in order beforehand so you don't lose any data can sometimes be a nerve-racking task.

If you happen to encounter a problem with the update- like missing data, iOS update failures or a frozen phone- there might still be a way to recover what you've lost and complete your iOS 11 update without issue... PhoneRescue from iMobie allows you to access deleted and lost data on iOS 11, and even browse through data in your iCloud backups to pull individual files as needed.

And with the latest release that brings support for the software on iOS 11 and High Sierra, there is also now a built-in iOS Repair feature that will fix the most common iOS update issues- such as Recovery Mode problems, phones stuck on the Apple logo during reboot, and other iOS update failures- all while preserving your data in the process.

Here's how it works: Once you install the latest version of PhoneRescue on your Mac, it gives you options to repair both iPhone and iPads stuck during an update.

By selecting "iOS Repair Tools" in the app and connecting your device with a USB cable to your Mac, the software will automatically fix upgrade errors and get you back on track to successfully and cleanly installing iOS 11.

Youtube Updated with New Logo

YouTube TV updated with new icon, animation to match recent YouTube redesign

Last month, YouTube received a massive redesign across all platforms that introduced a new icon and various interface tweaks across its apps. YouTube TV is now one of the last products to be updated to match this new branding.

A small update to the Android and iOS apps, as well as the website, this morning revealed a new icon that is simpler than its predecessor. The original logo was more intricate with shadows contributing to a layered effect and appearance.

This new logo’s television screen is composed of much simpler and flatter shapes. Color-wise, it adopts the brighter red and gets rid of the various shades from the original logo.

Android One launches in Us

Android One launches in the US with Moto X4, available on Project Fi at $399‼️

Back in June, Project Fi unceremoniously announced via Twitter that a mid-tier device that supports Google's MVNO service would be coming soon.

Today, Google confirmed that the Moto X4 announced last month at IFA 2017 will be the first non-Nexus or Pixel device to officially work on Project Fi.

The Moto X4 is an Android One device as noted by a logo on the rear of the handset. Marking Motorola’s return to its X-line of smartphones, the 4th generation device features a 5.2-inch 1080p display with a notable front and rear curvature on this predominantly glass device.

It is powered by a Snapdragon 630 processor with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of on-board storage expandable via microSD. The rear features a dual-camera setup with 12MP and 8MP sensors combining for depth effects and other creative options. There is also a 16MP front-facing camera that has an “adaptive low-light mode” and “panoramic selfies.”

On the software front, this Android One device runs a “pure Android experience” that focuses on providing timely OS and security updates. Google promises that Android Oreo is coming before year’s end to the Moto X4, with a guaranteed and fast update to Android P in 2018. The Android One Moto X4 is priced at $399 and comes in Super Black and Sterling Blue — both being quite glossy and shiny. Pre-orders begin today on the Project Fi website, with Google offering a trade-in program of up to $165 for older Nexus devices.

Security Patch for Oreo Pixel/Nexus

September security patch for Oreo rolling out to Pixel/Nexus

The September security patch is now available for Pixel and Nexus devices, marking the first - albeit small - update to Android 8.0 Oreo. Other manufacturers began releasing updates last week, while Google was uncharacteristically late this month to post factory and OTA images for their phones and tablets this month.

Google released the September bulletin last week for the benefit of other OEMs, but waited until today to post images for manually sideloading and flashing. Google notes that the two security patch level strings provide "Android partners with the flexibility to more quickly fix a subset of vulnerabilities that are similar across all Android devices."

Vulnerabilities range from moderate to critical, with the most severe possibly enabling remote code execution when browsing, using email, or MMS.

5 Tips & Tricks to Prepare your Iphone/iPad for iOS Update

5 Tips and Tricks to prepare your iPhone/iPad for the iOS 11 update

It's iOS 11 update time, which means that your iPhone or iPad is about to receive a new coat of paing and a slew of useful new features and functionalities that will definitely change your user experience.

To make sure you run into zero problems when the moment comes and update your iPhone without any hiccups, we've compiled a list of a few things that you should take care of in order tо run into no issues!

1. Charge your phone

No one would initiate a major OS update with their iPhone or iPad having merely 15% of battery left, right? Well, we like to imagine that most people know better, but let this be a reminder to charge your phone up before you start updating to iOS 11. Better yet, you might wanna leave it plugged in the charger during the process - this way you will have enough juice to tinker with the new version of the OS.

2. Make an iTunes backup

Although it's quite unlikely, there's always the chance of things going haywire during the update process. We don't know, some of you might have angered the smartphone gods, but having a handy backup around will definitely keep you safe from accidental experience-breaking issues. Due to the fact that you won't be able to restore your device from an iCloud backup if something goes wrong, it's imperative that you make a full iTunes backup. This way, you will be able to get back to square one if something wrong happens, perish the thought.

3. Free up some space

Users with 16GB iPhones, or even those rocking the 8GB iPhone 5c, we feel you. It's hard getting by with such a minuscule amount of storage. We know that you are probably using 95% of your available native storage already, but you won't be able to download and install iOS 11 if you don't have 1-2GB of free space. iOS 11 should clock in at around 1.7GB, so make sure you have at least double that beforehand.

4. Is your device eligible for the update?

The title pretty much sums it up - if you're rocking an iPhone 5 or an older one, then no, you shouldn't keep your hopes up. You won't get to play with iOS 11 unless you get a newer device. Here are theeligible devices:

5. Connect to a Wi-Fi network

Yes, it probably won't be advisable to download the large update if you're not hooked to a Wi-Fi network. We know you're likely sporting an unlimited data plan, but still, better save yourself some bandwidth.

Have fun with iOS 11!
